The Playground Opens

On Sunday June 6th we held the official opening of the upgraded playground in front of the Community Centre in Stoke Orchard. A great day was had by all. The playground was opened officially by Roy Maddock-Lyon. He cut the ribbon and the kids swarmed in.

Roy flew the Halifax tug that towed the Horsa gliders on D-Day into Europe. The playground is a memorial to all those who were involved in those terrible days - thankyou Roy.

A display regarding the history of the airfield and its occupants, the men of the Glider pilots regiment and aircraft built alongside a tribute to Amy Johnson, the daring aviatrix who lived in the village was held in the Community Centre.
